Monday is a new series The Imperfect Perfectionist found on Life With Wendy where she is partnering with Kristin ( (a Professional Organizer and owner of The Organized Lifestyle Store, Theorganizedlfestylestore.com/blog) to find a way to manage her time and feel a sense of accomplishment at the end of the day.
How do we steer away from perfection? Last week I hosted a girl’s holiday party and deliberated over the menu for days. In the end I made a pork tenderloin that ended up that night’s entre for my standard poodle, who helped himself to the roast fifteen minutes before the guests arrived, so much for perfection.
Kristin wrote last week that she wanted me to define my goals and make a log of where my time goes. Do I have goals? Sure I think most women do, however they are squelched by spilled juice, multiple pick ups, and chores that stack a to do list into next year’s calendar. It becomes convoluted.
I know that my main goal is to care for my family and bring up four children that will make the world a better place. My other goal is to write, columns that reach out and connect from the heart, write books, and eventually write a screen play. My third goal is to find peace. Somehow all three don’t connect.
Here is my daily log:
5:30- Up, make bed, get dressed, brush teeth, make lunches, fill water bottle and leave for work out.
6:00-7:00- Work Out.
7:00-7:30- Bring kids to school.
7:30-8:30- Get boys ready for school, breakfast, load of laundry.
8:30-11:00- Straighten house, do laundry.
11-00-12:00- Check emails, tweet, look on line at fun things.
12:00-1:00- Start to gear up to write.
1:00-2:00- Panic because I only have one hour left before my day pretty much ends.
2:00- Pick up kids. Make dinner. Start to work again but feel guilty.
3:30- Boys come home.
4:00- Check homework, feed kids and try to sneak in a little work because I feel guilty.
5:30- Out the door for night activities until 7:30 when I scream at boys to get ready for bed and try to sneak in a bit more work.
8:30- Boys in bed…Go to Internet and get lost looking at emails, face book, etc. until 10 when I realize the boys still aren’t sleeping, their homework wasn’t complete and I have to get up in 7 hours.
Anyone else out there feeling this helpless?
PS- Any Christmas tips would be greatly appreciated.
